You might say: “OK, so now I’m saved, so now what?” Service. We can all service God’s glory with the gifts He gives to us. These gifts may be different in all of us and sometimes alike in some of us, but as believers with the Faith that Christ is the Son Of God and that He shed His blood on the cross to pay for our sins, we are blessed with some kind of individual gift which we are responsible for using to service our brothers and sisters and glorify God. In 1 Peter 4:10-11 we read: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”
Now, spiritual gifts can be broken down into different categories, but not necessarily only these categories:
Ministry – Some are called to practice in the church by preaching, teaching, musical director, Sunday school teacher, etc…
“He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…” (Eph 4:10-12).
Motivational – We may be gifted to write or preach the word or maybe even to simply bring it up in a discussion with a non-believer, bringing them to consider the cross in a brighter light.
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” (Rom 12:4-8)
Personal – For this category, we should take a cue from what Paul wrote:
“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
Put your gifts to good use, again, to glorify God, just as Jesus said: “…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Humble yourselves before others, when necessary and always humble yourself before Christ.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”(Ephesians 2:10)
“…obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”(Colossians 3:22-24)
