Treasures In Heaven

Jesus told us: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”(Matt 6:19-21)

Jesus was trying to send the message that EVERYTHING on earth, ALL earthly pleasures and ALL worldly wealth is only TEMPORARY.  It will last, maybe, in this life only and even then sometimes not that long (… “where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal”). Heavenly treasures are forever. We store them in heaven every time we do good deeds which serve others and/or God in Heaven. Additionally, our hearts will remain righteous when we keep our minds on spiritual treasures in lieu of treasures of the flesh.

We must remember to always keep heavenly treasures in our hearts and minds. Earthly wealth is actually sin because it takes our minds away from God, who gave us life, eternal. “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (Matt 6:24)

Second Thoughts

I am a sinner. Mostly, I have judged people on who they are and what they are. Instead, I should have had the heart of Jesus and loved my brothers and sisters, all of them, as Jesus loves me. I have to say though, as of late, my heart has changed. I had been reading my Bible and taking snippets from the Scriptures and using them out of context to justify my cynical behavior against  those who are simply DIFFERENT than I am.

After a long talk with a pastor friend of mine, he got me to realize that the people who are different than me were also God’s children and that He allowed them to be that way for a reason. I had forgotten God’s sovereignty and that everything that happens, happens at His hand.

Not very long ago, I read a story which explained the new rules of a certain church and how they were regulating who could advance in that church’s ministry and those who could not. This reading made me realize how my feelings must have been taken when I expressed them to others. My reply to that publication was this:”If Jesus was in your church during a bad storm and a small group of ‘different’ people came knocking at the doors for shelter, what do you think He would do?” For me, this is a huge turnaround in my thinking. Several months ago I would have completely agreed with the church’s policy. It has become crystal clear to me that the Holy Spirit has been working on my heart to accept people as they are, just as Jesus did. God has been working as “the potter”, molding me like clay to become more Christ-like in this part of my life.”You never know whose eyes God is watching you through” – Denver Moore.

President Ronald Reagan said “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”.  The removal of the wall brought East and West Berlin together, so as to be one whole city.  So must we tear down the walls which separate ourselves from each other so that we can be one whole race – the human race.  You see, we are all in this world together and the world, to us, is becoming smaller and smaller. In reality, this world is like a grain of sand in the hourglass of God’s expanse, and we are all just waiting to sift through that narrow path to the other side of the glass where everything as we know it will be different and we will all be equal.

Jesus said: “Come to me, ALL you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.“. (Matt 11:28) It has become clear to me, now, just how important that little word “ALL” really is. When our worlds are changed, we will all be equal in each other’s eyes just as we are now, in the sight of The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord for His convictions upon us!
